I was at my wits end. Each school day was ending in tears. For weeks on end, this poor child cared nothing for the textbook-style materials she was having to sit and somehow remember for the pointless test at the end. She saw the other three children in our home, not under foster status like herself, time and time again get done with their homeschooling in time for lunch, only for her to be still sitting at the dining table until well into the afternoon and even evening hours. Something had to change.

I had Google’d it multiple times but never came up with any better options. She must be enrolled in a state school – this was the requirement of the case worker and of the courts. I was thankful for the ability to keep her home with the others but the curriculums that were offered through this particular school were just not working for her, or for me.

As a last-ditch effort before sending her back to a brick-and-mortar classroom, I reached out to social media into the very loving and supportive homeschool community, and one small voice answered back and told me to look into Arizona Learning Communities. After speaking with the group’s organizer, I was thrilled to learn that under this program our foster daughter could do the same curriculum as our other children and still have the “public schooled” status that satisfies the courts.

I’m so thankful for this school option!
